Meet Julie
Author, Psychologist, and Mother

Julie Neches began journaling when her daughter Alix was diagnosed with bipolar disorder her freshman year of college. Alix fought medications and hospitalizations and sought creativity.

Julie lost the battle to keep Alix alive when she died at age twenty-five. Nonetheless their love endures beyond the grave. Julie wrote a memoir to honor her daughter’s legacy and help others.

Julie maintained a psychology practice while simultaneously advocating for her own daughter with a mental illness. Julie has a doctorate in clinical psychology and serves on the boards of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of New York State and Westchester. She is a mental health advocate and speaker.

Most importantly, she is a mother who journeyed with her daughter through mental illness, starting with her move into the room of the college infirmary for parents of a student with an ongoing illness when Alix was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and ending with her untimely death.
